Support For Parents Of Tweens & Teens in Asheville, NC

HELPING PARENTS FIND A SENSE OF JOY
AND CALM AT HOME AGAIN

It can be so hard to watch your child struggle and not know how to help. You want to make it all better but it's not as simple as putting a bandaid on a scratched knee anymore. Many parents seeking support feel unsure of how to help their tween or teen.

Perhaps you can relate. You may be noticing that your kid is defensive, withdrawn, and seems overwhelmed most of the time. Maybe you struggle with how to respond because no matter what you say or do, it seems to make things worse.

Feeling worried all the time, you may lay awake at night concerned about your child and how to help them.

Do You Feel Worried, Stressed, and Overwhelmed?

Do any of the following resonate with you?

  • You’ve read all the books, you know what to do, but when stress gets high, all the best strategies go by the wayside
  • You get triggered too–lose your temper, feel disrespected and misunderstood–and soon, everyone is yelling
  • You struggle with falling back on strategies you experienced growing up, even the ones you swore you wouldn’t repeat
  • You are trying to communicate with your tween or teen but fail to get through
  • You know that life is complicated for your tween or teen: climate change, social media, unrealistic body image expectations, parental divorce, moving, loss of a loved one–how do you help them bounce back and navigate it all?
  • You set limits around game time, phone use, or social media but it's hard to be consistent
  • You want to get on the same page as your partner but sometimes you approach parenting in very different ways
  • You want to be sure that your child is going to be able to navigate the world safely

If these sound true for you, I want you to know that it's common to feel very alone in your parenting journey, especially when your kid is grappling with hard issues. But you don't have to keep struggling on your own, trying to hold everyone in the family together. It's okay to share what you are going through--you are not alone.

Parent Support Can Help You Be There For Your Tween or Teen

It’s possible to feel confident in your parenting skills. Imagine if you could...

  • Stay calm even when your tween or teen isn’t

  • Know how to set rules in the house without feeling like a dictator
  • Know how to respond to their emotions
  • Stop worrying all the time because you can be there for your kid

How Support For Parents of Tweens & Teens Works

Parent Support Therapy consists of 50 minute sessions, typically with one or both parents participating. Sessions focus specifically on providing tools and resources for parents. A safe space where deep self reflection about parenting roles and styles is created, one where parents can be vulnerable and share freely.

  1. Let’s have the first Parent Support session with either both parents or just one parent present.
  2. I will listen as you describe the unique challenges you are facing in your parenting role.
  3. We will do an inventory of the beliefs, values, and resources that guide you as a parent.
  4. Keeping your unique goals in mind, we will make a plan for how to reach them.
  5. Over the course of our sessions, you will find immediate relief as you develop skills for handling whatever is thrown your way as a parent.

Research shows that Parent Support Therapy can help parents navigate the unique challenges that come with parenting tweens and teens, feel less alone in their parenting journey, and address any family dynamics that are holding them back.
